I'd guess this box dates to the mid 20th century or so

and even more so to become its temporary caretaker

orange and blue paint to my eye is just perfect

which are just nice sculptural objects to have sitting around (I personally am reluctant to try to take them apart

and there are some energetic scribbles on the several pages too

I know this came from a Midwestern farm community, and would very much bet the feathers that fill it were plucked by the person who made it, or at least a member of their family. Light weight red wool ground with cotton and wool appliqu, plus wonderfully embroidered hat and fingers and toes! I especially love the tiny white horse on red ground stitched on like a patch at his feet, suggesting our boy here
