Christabel Pankhurst (1880 1958) was one of the leaders of the British suffragette movement. Fourteen hunger strikers were arrested on the day that the original hunger striker, Mrs Wallace Dunlop (1864 1942) was released from prison. Arrested suffragettes went on hunger strike in protest at the government's refusal to treat them as political prisoners.
