It withstood sieges in the uprising of 1294-1295 and again in 1403 and 1404 when the castle was besieged by the forces of Owain Glyndwr
The factory belonged to the Philanthropic Society Institution
while in the background to the left a drawing and quartering is being undertaken
The lizard specimen was procured by Sir Joseph Banks apparently from Java
