I would guess it was the original  drawing after which an engraving were then made for a zoological volume

with this curtain splitting the image into two parts in a bit of a Baroque manner

These two look so much themselves, so relaxed, and very warm toward whoever was taking the photograph. With a pump in the hands of the young woman at left, and the young woman at right with hand on a steering wheel and a license plate to her right, seems they are just inside a garage, maybe waiting for a boyfriend or husband to finish up and get them on the road, off on an adventure! 6 1 8" x 3 7 8",
