the Squadron was made up mostly of American volunteer pilots
It was introduced to the USAF in April 1953 and was the USAF's first operational supersonic jet
When the RN retired the Buccaneer in 1978

The 'Lizzie' had a short field capability which made the aircraft perfect for clandestine operations with the Special Operations Executive. The Lysander was initially used for artillery spotting and many were lost during the withdrawal of the British Expeditionary
